You can look at any point in the timeline of the history of humanity and easily see how people CONSPIRED to commit unspeakable evil.
Mind you, the pattern seems to be on repeat and is not relegated to any one part of the world.
People or large entities have colluded, conspired, planned, pre-planned, hidden, misdirected...the list goes on.
Hollywood has even made Netflix/Prime/Hulu series' based on these very real events.
Versailles, The Tudors, The Last Kingdom, The Borgias, Medici, Rome...the list, once again, goes on.
Yet, despite still living through history, a history that plays out like the spawn of John Grisham and Tom Clancy novels, you still can't bring yourself to see how people can CONSPIRE, not in theory but in practice, to commit the same level of unspeakable evil in our time.
People are generally good, which is precisely why they fail to see that we don't yet live in a world that is devoid of diabolical evil.
The kind of evil we saw, for example, in the first half of the 20th century.
(Many of us didn't see it up close and personal. Maybe that's the "problem".)
Today, those who commit evil realized that they can no longer do it directly, so they will do it via stealth. Silently.
Interestingly enough, they are not terribly silent about their intentions.
The problem is that we don't listen. We are too distracted.
What are we distracted by?
By those very Netflix/Amazon/Hulu shows about historical events, where people conspired to commit diabolical evil!
In the words of the Frontline reporter from the "Black White Supremacist" skit of Chappelle's Show:
"I'm overwhelmed by the irony."
Shabbat Shalom
